A Step Into the World of Cybersecurity: My Internship Story

Hi, I’m Ngo Wei Cheng, and I had the chance to do my internship at 57Network Consultancy as a Software Solution Assistant. My main focus was on cybersecurity, especially learning and working with Bitdefender GravityZone and audit services. During my internship, I was able to explore how cybersecurity solutions are implemented in real-world environments to protect businesses from digital threats. I also had the opportunity to assist in handling customer support cases, and preparing documentation. These experiences not only deepened my understanding of cybersecurity tools but also helped me see how technical solutions align with business needs in a professional setting.
At the beginning, I was both excited and nervous because this was my first real experience in a cybersecurity environment. But from day one, my team and supervisor were very supportive. They always guided me, shared their experiences, and gave me helpful advice that made it easier to adapt and grow.

Most of my daily work involved helping customers with their Bitdefender accounts, such as creating trial accounts, checking license usage, and solving technical issues. I also joined audit service sessions, where I learned how to review reports and explain to customers how Bitdefender protects their systems. On top of that, I wrote cybersecurity blogs and created video guides for the company’s YouTube channel, which really helped me improve my writing and design skills.

Besides cybersecurity, I also had the opportunity to explore Smartsheet and ClickUp, which are project management tools the company uses to help customers work more efficiently. Although they were quite new to me, learning them gave me a better understanding of how technology can make work processes easier.

Of course, there were challenges too. Some online learning webinars were quite long and detailed, which made it harder for beginners to stay focused and absorb everything at once. I think having shorter, more interactive tutorials would make the learning process smoother and more engaging. Although it took extra effort and preparation to fully understand the content and complete the assessments, I managed to overcome it through self-study and guidance from my mentors.

Another special experience I gained during this internship was learning how to communicate effectively with different types of customers. In technical support, not everyone has an IT background, so I learned to adjust my communication style, giving clear, simple instructions without using too many technical terms to avoid confusion. I also learned how to handle situations where customers do not reply. Instead of just waiting, I needed to be proactive by following up through messages or calls to make sure the issue was moving forward. Interestingly, I noticed that some customers communicated better over phone calls than through text, and understanding these preferences helped me solve problems more efficiently and build better customer relationships.

Through this internship, I gained so much more than I expected. My cybersecurity knowledge improved a lot, now I can clearly see how security solutions are applied in real-life cases. My communication skills also improved since I had to write to customers in English almost every day. And I learned how to work more efficiently by finding the best way to solve problems instead of just finishing tasks.

Overall, this internship was a meaningful and rewarding journey. It connected what I learned in university with real industry experience and gave me a clearer vision of my future in cybersecurity. I’m very thankful to everyone at 57Network for their support and for making my internship experience so valuable.​
